activities groups
The Mount Olivet community hosts a variety of Activities Groups — small groups created around an idea or theme. If you want to get to know other community members, reaching out to one of these Activities Groups below is a great place to start.
Book Ends
Group Contact: Marlene Stimpson
Book Ends is a reading group that meets at Mount Olivet at 1pm on the 4th Monday of every month. Men and women are welcome to join us to discuss a book that we’ve all read prior to the meeting. Contact Marlene to get on the email list or find out what book is up this month.
Brew Crew
Group Contact: Eric Hansen
Do you like to brew your own beer or make your own wine? Would you like to learn how? Join in the tradition of Martin and Katie Luther - we meet the first and third Sundays of each month. We will brew together the first Sunday of the month, and go on a field trip to an area tap room on the third Sunday.
Community Garden
Group Contact: Bruce & Julie Hjerpe // Facebook Group
We are a group of people who plant and harvest vegetables in Mount Olivet’s community garden. All of the produce we grow is donated to one of our community partners, and we welcome gardeners of all ages and skill levels. Find out what we’re up to on our Facebook group.
green team
Group Contact: Ron Frehner
We have begun organics recycling at Mount Olivet! This includes our community meal and the CLC. While we are underway, we are always looking for new ideas and new members to add to our team. Contact Ron if you are interested.
Older Wiser Lutherans (OWLs)
Group Contact: Curt & Barb Schoenrock
For all Mount Olivet members, friends and family who are over the age of 55! Join the OWLs for monthly gatherings planned either at Mount Olivet or off-site excursions. Past events have included ice-cream socials, apple orchard visits, game days, and more! Contact Barb to be added to the email list.
Quilters
Group Contact: Nancy VandeVegte This group meets weekly on Thursdays from 9am-12pm in the Conference Room. Quilt tops are sewn together by individuals at home and then the tops are tied when the group meets at Mount Olivet.
